The deseased were identified as Majnu Khan, 45, a cadre of Sarbahara group, and Kalam Sarder alias Kana Kalam, 40, a regional leader of the group.

Majnu was wanted in 30 cases including murder and robbery, according to a RAB press release.

The press release said RAB patrol at Nayakandi village tried to reach a jute field witnessing light there at about 2.15 am.

Sensing RAB presence, the suspected robbers who gathered there, tried to flee the scene firing indiscriminately that triggered a gun battle, it added.

Police sent the bodies to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
