A Dhaka court today sent Shariful Islam, a fugitive accused in the Jisan murder case, to jail after police re-arrested him from Feni railway station early Wednesday.
Shariful, 22, son of late Shafik Ahmed of Dinajpur’s Nawabganj upazila, had escaped from custody on June 19 by attacking police and breaking free of his handcuffs at the Dhaka court premises.
He was produced before the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court today, where the investigating officer sought his detention in jail custody. Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Sefatullah granted the plea.
Shariful is one of the charge-sheeted accused in the 2019 murder case of 14-year-old Jisan Hossain under Khilgaon Police Station. The case is currently at the deposition stage at the court of the 3rd Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge of Dhaka.
Police said a case was also filed against Shariful at Kotwali Police Station for assaulting law enforcers and fleeing custody.
