Ex-CEC Kazi Habibul Awal arrested in Dhaka

The Detective Branch (DB) of police today (June 25) apprehended former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal from the capital's Moghbazar area.

Deputy Commissioner (Media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Talebur Rahman confirmed the matter.

Kazi Habibul Awal was arrested in connection with a case filed over alleged manipulation of national elections.

The case, filed by the BNP at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station, accuses 24 individuals, including former CECs and officials, of biased conduct.

Earlier, former CEC KM Nurul Huda was detained from his Uttara residence on Sunday. The arrests follow an order by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus to investigate the roles of election officials involved in the past three national polls.
