DHAKA: On the occasion of the Bangladesh Development Forum (BDF) from November 15-16, Jeff Nankivell, Director General Programming, Asia-Pacific, Global Affairs Canada, travelled to Bangladesh.
Canada high commission on Monday issued a press release regarding the visit.
It said, “Nankivell’s visit proved to be an opportunity to underscore the importance of Canada-Bangladesh development cooperation and to emphasize the need to work together to achieve results”.
“During the visit, Nankivell emphasized the importance of continuing the reform process in the readymade garments sector, ensuring gender equality throughout society, and ending child, early and forced marriage,” it added.
Nankivell also paid a courtesy call on the health and family welfare minister Mohammed Nasim and participated in a panel on Health and Quality Education: Offering a Secure Future for All along with the finance minister AMA Muhith, BRAC founder and chairperson Sir Fazle Abed and primary and mass education secretary Mesbah ul Alam.
In his discussions, Nankivell commented on the over 40-year development partnership between Canada and Bangladesh and the impressive development gains made by Bangladesh in that period.
Nankivell also had bilateral discussions with the finance minister and foreign secretary.
He further said that Canada is working in Bangladesh to provide opportunities for children and youth, and to strengthen sustainable economic growth.
