Dignitaries threatened to trap others

DHAKA: Joint commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Monirul Islam disclosed that dignitaries, including Prof. Anisuzzaman, Prof. Jafar Iqbal and Prof. Muntasir Mamun, were threatened to ensnare others over past enmity.

He disclosed the matter in a press release at noon after quizzing a Jamaat-e-Islami activist, Abdul Haque.

Police detained Abdul Haque from city’s Tejgaon area for his alleged involvement with issuance of death threats to the noted citizens of the country including politicians.

Monirul Islam further said Abdul Haque, hailed from Chhatak Upazila of Habiganj, was a fraud.

His friends, Faizur Rahman, a student of Leading University in Sylhet and Saleh Ahmed Fuad, student at Islamic University in Kushtia, unmasked him when he used to teach at Jamiatul Madrasa in Shahbagh of Zakiganj of Sylhet District, he added.

Later, vice-principal of the madrasa sacked him, DMP joint commissioner added.

Abdul Haque used “spoofing software” to trap his friends and the vice-principal of the madrasa to take revenge, Monirul Islam added.
