RUPGANJ: A five-old-girl was strangled to death for a ransom of more than Tk three lakh in Araihazar upazila of Narayanganj on Thursday.

The dead was identified as Hafsa Attar Rupa, 5, daughter of Malaysia expatriate Hazrat Ali of Girja village of the upazila.

Family sources said Rupa went missing from her house on Thursday noon. Later in the evening, a man phoned a shop of mobile phone recharge, near to Rupa’s house and demanded Tk 3.30 lakh as ransom.

Family informed the matter to police and law enforcers started drive to rescue the girl. Later, they found dead body of the girl dumped in front of her house around 2:00am.

Araihazar Thana Sub-Inspector (SI) Salam told banglanews that the child was strangled to death. Police visited the crime scene.
