RANGPUR: Five people were killed and 40 injured as a bus overturned on the Dhaka-Rangpur Highway at Pirganj Bazar in the northern Rangpur district early Saturday, ending their long journey for eid celebration into a grim tragedy.

Witnesses said a Panchagar-bound bus of Rupali Paribahan from Dhaka skidded off the road and overturned on the roadside when the driver lost control, leaving four dead on the spot.

Those injured in the fatal accident were rushed to the local Upazila Health Complex where the doctor declared one more dead.

"The identities of the dead could not be known immediately," police said.

A case was field in this connection with Pirganj police station, the sources said.
