AL lawmaker stabbed in Barisal, one held

BARISAL: Some unidentified miscreants stabbed Awami League lawmaker Monirul Islam Moni at the divisional headquarters early Thursday.

The legislator from Barisal-2 (Ujirpur-Banaripara) constituency was rushed to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital.

Moni told banglanews that some 4 to 5 criminals attacked and stabbed him at around 2:30am while he was getting off his car in front of city’s Jhautala Law College.

Kotwali Thana OC Kamalesh Chandra Haldar said the incident “might be an outcome of land dispute”.

A suspect named Riazul Islam was held in connection with the incident.

According to Moni, he was attacked following an altercation with Riazul at the residence of his father-in-law a day before.
